Milford Sound: Innate Beauty
Mar 15, 2022
Architecture trends change. Fashions evolve then repeat. They say that beauty of another is found in the eye of the beholder. We once traded good for good, then the gold standard came around as a common currency, now we have pieces of paper that can hold incredible value, though some may measure their worth in followers or likes. What is considered a peace offering or greeting in some nations may be an insult in others. Even the concept of “Intelligence” is likely gauged differently depending on when and where you have found yourself. And science? Things are proven and then disproven time after time, we evolve and science progresses. It seems everything is relative to the time and culture you place yourself in.
Everything but natural beauty. Standing through the test of time. The kind of authentic and objective beauty that only earth can provide and that the birds can judge. Looking at the history of humans; since the beginning of time people have written and been touched by expansive landscapes, rushing rivers, steep cliffs, rugged mountains and the mystery of the sea. It’s in our nature to feel at home and inspired when we step outside.
Piopiotahi or Milford Sound, is without a doubt one of these places. A place that would take the breath away from any sane human, a place that would awe-inspire any conscious being. There are many stories of this fiord, some from the first who landed on this island nearly one thousand years ago. It’s said that its beauty moved even the Goddess of Death, to a point that she was concerned that this magnificent creation would attract humans to come and never leave. I can understand why.
These places are the universal language that bind us together through time.
